The Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) invites all interested stakeholders to participate in the public consultation on the draft SAPP Generation and Transmission Master Plan Update. The SAPP Generation and Transmission Master Plan Update provides a long-term outlook for electricity demand, generation and transmission development across the Southern African Power Pool. It supports coordinated regional planning and identifies investment pathways to strengthen regional power system integration and security of supply.
The SAPP Generation and Transmission Master Plan Update has been developed since April 2025 through a collaborative process involving the SAPP Coordination Centre, the SAPP Planning Subcommittee, and the consultant team. Throughout the project, regular technical meetings have been held to discuss the methodology, assumptions, modelling approach, scenarios, and preliminary results. In addition, national alignment workshops were conducted in each SAPP Member Country to review country-specific data, assumptions, and preliminary findings. The technical work completed to date has been validated by the SAPP Planning Subcommittee and forms the basis of this public consultation.
The consultation represents an important milestone in the development of the Master Plan. While SAPP member utilities through the Planning Subcommittee have been closely involved throughout the process, the public consultation provides an opportunity for governments, regulators, development partners, the private sector, academia, civil society, and other interested stakeholders to review the draft documents and provide feedback before the Master Plan Update is finalised.

Public Consultation Workshop
An online public consultation workshop will take place on Tuesday, 28 July, beginning at 13:00 CAT.
During the workshop, the SAPP, and the consultant team will:
- present the draft Master Plan and its key findings;
- explain the methodology, assumptions, and scenarios underpinning the analysis;
- outline the consultation process; and
- respond to clarification questions from participants.
Comments raised during the workshop will be documented. However, only comments submitted through the online feedback form during the consultation period will be considered as formal consultation submissions.
